Coffee table:work in progress.

The aim of this project is to design and create a coffee table using scrap or reclaimed materials. The first step was to create a sketch of the design. I wanted the table to have a rustic wooden top and hairpin legs.

Once I knew what I wanted from the design I created a cad model using Solidworks and rendered it using Keyshot. The model allowed me to get an idea of what the final design will looks like and how it would need to be put together.

I created an orthographic projection of the design showing key dimensions.

The timber arrived today. The wood is a reclaimed oak beam that will provide more than enough timber for what I need.

I cut the beam down to length using a hand saw. Even though the beam had been cut to about 1/3 of its original length it still weighed a ridiculous amount.

My cut was not straight so it needed finishing off. I started using a belt sander but soon found it was taking too long so I switched to an electric planer.

While I was waiting for the wood to be planked I did some higher quality renders.
